What Are Cigars?

Cigars are cylindrical rolls of tobacco that have been cut into filler, binder and wrapper leaves. The filler leaves and binder leaf are made from a blend of tobaccos from different parts of the plant (known as long filler). A wrapper leaf is rolled around the filled tobacco bunch and glued to it with a glue or adhesive that has been applied by hand.

Tobacco Standards of Quality

The best cigars are made from tobacco that is a perfect balance of appearance, aroma and taste. The tobacco must be pristine in its appearance, elastic to the touch and have pleasant, enticing flavors that will not only be enjoyable for you but will also entice others who smoke cigars to enjoy your handcrafted creation.

Aged Tobacco

Good cigars are made from a well-aged, properly fermented tobacco. The fermentation process removes many of the vegetal, raw green bean-like flavors that a lot of tobacco leaves have when they are harvested. The fermentation process also helps to rid the tobacco of the nicotine that is a primary addictive component of the leaf.

Humidity, Temperature And Storage

When it comes to the storage of cigars, a humidor is often used to maintain an even humidity level. If the humidity is too high or too low, the cigars will become dry and lose their taste.

Cigar smoking has been linked to lung cancer, heart disease and other health problems. The risk of cancer among cigar smokers is higher than that of cigarette smokers and can be increased by the use of more than one cigar per day. Smoking cigars can also be dangerous to those who are exposed to the smoke of a smoked cigar, as it can cause respiratory diseases such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
