What Are Cigars?

Cigars are long, thick bundles of tobacco leaves that are rolled together and wrapped in a dried palm leaf or corn (maize) husk. Christopher Columbus and the explorers who followed him in Cuba, Mexico, Central America, and Brazil discovered that Indians smoked these string-tied bundles. The name cigar comes from the Spanish word sik’ar, which is probably a derivation of the Mayan term for the tobacco plant – nk.

Premium cigars are made of one thing only – pure, unadulterated tobacco leaves. They are crafted by hand by skilled artisans, and they take time to enjoy. They are often enjoyed during moments of rest and relaxation, such as after a meal or as a post-work indulgence. In addition, cigar smoking provides the body with nicotine, which is a natural relaxant.

A quality cigar is a pleasure to smoke, with an excellent blend of tobacco leaves offering complex flavors and aromas. A good cigar is also an impressive gift for friends and family members, as well as a way to reward yourself for achievement or to mark special occasions.

Cigars can be enjoyed with a range of beverages, from coffee and black tea to a glass of wine or brandy. They can be smoked alone or with other people, and they can be stored in specially-designed humidors to preserve their flavor. In the past, cigars were mainly consumed by men. However, today women have joined the ranks of cigar smokers.
