How to Choose a Cigar

There are many reasons to enjoy cigars, but the most important is that a good cigar delivers a sophisticated sensory experience. Quality cigars are made from premium tobacco that is carefully selected, aged and crafted by experienced artisans, and stored in the proper conditions. Cigars do not contain artificial ingredients, burning agents, or paper like cigarettes, making them a pure product of nature.

When choosing a cigar, there are a few factors that come into play to determine whether it is a good smoke:

The first consideration is body: mild, medium, or full. Mild cigars are great for beginners or as an early morning cigar while medium strength cigars satisfy the broadest spectrum of smokers. Full-bodied cigars are best reserved for the experienced aficionado.

Secondly, it is important to note the ring gauge of the cigar. A larger ring gauge indicates a fuller, stronger blend of filler tobacco while a smaller ring gauge indicates a lighter or smoother blend of filler tobacco.

Finally, it is important to test the construction of the cigar by rolling it between your fingers. A good cigar should feel well constructed with no divots or holes in the filler.

Once you have a general idea of what you are looking for in a cigar, the final choice will come down to personal preference and smoking habits. There is no right or wrong choice, but it is important to keep in mind the adage that your taste is the best guide.
