How Cigars Are Made
Cigars are a luxury indulgence that are associated with elegance, class, and masculinity. They’re a classic way to spend time with friends or enjoy on your own. They’re used to celebrate major events and milestones and are often seen as a symbol of wealth, power, and success. While cigar smoking has positive effects, such as relaxation and enjoyment, it can also have negative health impacts if done incorrectly or in excess.
Understanding how a cigar is made is key to enjoying it properly. It’s said that 200 pairs of hands touch a cigar before it makes it to your humidor. That’s a lot of people with many different skills that all play a role in the finished product.
After fermentation, tobacco leaves are aged for a period of time to refine the flavor and create desirable properties. This includes removing vegetal, green notes and giving it a more polished, mature taste.
The cigar maker uses a mix of several types and primings of tobacco, as well as various wrappers and binder leaf to build a balanced and refined smoke that offers a fine gustatory and aromatic experience. The cigar is then rolled into its shape, the head and foot are capped with a cap to protect the leaves during storage and transportation.
Properly smoking a cigar takes practice, but with time you’ll master the art of cigar enjoyment. It’s important to remember that cigar smoke contains nicotine, which is a strong stimulant and can cause serious illness if inhaled in large amounts. The proper technique involves taking slow, shallow puffs and chewing on them rather than inhaling them.
