The Benefits of Smoking Cigars
A cigar is a tube-shaped tobacco product made of tightly rolled, cured and fermented tobacco leaves, or other ingredients, which are held together in a wrapper and smoked. The practice of smoking a cigar is often associated with social bonding, where groups of like-minded people gather to relax, enjoy each other’s company and engage in conversation. This type of leisurely pastime can be an opportunity to foster new business relationships and create lasting friendships.
Cigarmakers use many different varieties of tobacco from various countries and regions to create a variety of strengths, aromas, and flavors. They may add additional ingredients, such as spices or coffee, to achieve desired flavor profiles. They also utilize tertiary aging to further dissipate acidity, which is a critical part of producing a perfect cigar.
When a cigar is aged properly, it will exhibit a fine balance of flavors and aromas, with all undesirable qualities absent. A well-aged cigar will also display a high level of polish and maturity, with a smooth texture that is pleasant to the touch. Cigars that taste of raw green grass or vegetal, bitter tobacco are likely to have not been properly fermented and aged.
Smoking any tobacco product has been shown to have detrimental effects on a person’s health, including a serious risk of nicotine addiction and cancers of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, lungs, and pancreas. These risks are a strong incentive to prioritize overall health and make wise choices about smoking and non-smoking activities.
